Difficulty: Wildlife viewing occurs at paved parking lot at northwest corner of lake.
Parking: Sunrise to sunset. Parking at designated site only. Majority of lake shoreline is privately owned.
- From the Lakeside Ranger District office, travel northwest on White Mountain Blvd. 0.2 of a mile to the junction of Lakeview Lane.
- Turn left on Lakeview, proceed 300 yards to stop sign at junction with Rainbow Lake Drive.
- Bear lightly left, drive across Rainbow Lake Drive into public parking area for Rainbow Lake.
Highlights: This site is exclusively a birding area. A variety of waterfowl are visible here year-round, especially with fall and spring migrations. November to February, Rainbow Lake is possibly the best site in the area to view several wintering bald eagles at the same time. Bring optics.
